12 Years Dance at Sharon’s Studio of Dance & Music

$360 Scholarship

When I was 5 years old one of my friends invited me to go to dance class with her for friendship week at Sharon’s. I had no idea that dance would become one of the most important parts of my life and the friends I made would last a lifetime. Now I value dance more than I ever did because of the pandemic. Being stuck in the house all day is confining and getting to go to dance, if only for a few hours, is so liberating. I spend all week looking forward to my dance classes and every time I walk into the studio I feel myself smiling. Taking dance classes has give

n me so much confidence and happiness, when I am stressed or sad dance gives me a way to forget about that and enjoy time with my friends and teachers.

My dance teachers are some of the most important people in my life. They know me so well and know just what I need to be a better dancer and a better person. Mrs. Amanda has been my dance teacher for 9 years, yet each class I have with her I am challenged and I leave class a better dancer than when I walked in. One of my favorite things to do is give crocheted gifts to my dance teachers as a thanks for all they have taught me. The confidence they give me not only helps me on stage, it allows me to share my crochet work and art without shame.

Throughout my dancing career I have taken ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical and irish step dance. By taking such a variety of classes I have been able to make so many friends, some of which I have known since my first day of dance class. We have experienced so much in our years together and the memories and friendships will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am so sad to be leaving Sharon’s behind but I know that I will use everything I learned here for the rest of my life.

I will be attending Montserrat College of Art in the fall to study fibers and textiles.
