Updated: Dec 17, 2023

It’s hard to believe that the new year is right around the corner! This time of year, we think about all of the things that we’ve accomplished in the past year, and all of the things that we still want to accomplish in the next year. Below are some of our favorite new year’s resolutions for dancers! Share your new year resolutions with us in the comments below or email us at sharonsdanceandmusic123@gmail.com. We can’t wait to hear what you’re working towards in the new year!

1. Reflect & Set Goals

First and foremost, take time to reflect on the past year.

  • What did you learn? What do you still want to learn?

  • What did you improve on? What would you still like to improve on?

Think about the things that you’ve done over the past year and what you still want to do and use that to set goals for yourself for the coming year. Write your goals down in a notebook, whatever they may be, and keep track of them throughout the year.

2. Focus on your health (physical and mental) and make it a priority

Self-care is so important. This year, make your mental and physical health a priority

  • Get on a schedule, that includes a sleep schedule!

  • Focus on eating well

3. Give More Compliments

You love to hear a classmate or your teacher tell you “great job”, right? Well, if you love to hear it, they do too! Give more compliments this year - let your classmates know when you notice they’re working hard and doing a great job!

4. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

It can be hard to not compare yourself to others in the room. Every person and every dancer has their strengths and weaknesses. The person next to you may be great at turns, but you’re great at memorizing choreography. Instead of beating yourself up over that - embrace it, work harder at your turns, maybe ask for some guidance, and in returns, your tricks for your skills.

5. Make a New Friend

One of the great things about meeting new people at the dance studio is that right off the bat you already have common ground, something in common - your love of dance! Use your passion for dance to make a new friend this year.

6. Put Your Phone Away

Today, so much of our lives is on our phones. But when you come to dance, it’s important to detach from your phone and put your full focus and attention on your class. Make it a priority to put your phone away during class this year!

7. Practice More

As the saying goes, “practice makes perfect”. This year, make an effort to practice more outside of the studio. Work on stretching and flexibility while you’re watching TV as an example.

8. Try Something New

Trying something new can be scary, but sometimes scary is good! Try something new this year that will help you grow as a person and a dancer. For example, take a new class that’s out of your comfort zone - maybe hip hop, or musical theater!

9. Be Brave & Bold

Dance allows us to express our feelings and emotions in a creative way. Here at Sharon’s, we pride ourselves on creating a safe, nurturing environment, where our students can feel comfortable and confident expressing themselves. Be brave and allow yourself to simply be yourself!

10. Have FUN

Always remember why you started dancing and why you grew to love dancing - you have fun. One of the most important things, if not THE most important thing is that at dance, we have FUN! Dance helps us escape from the daily stressors of school and life in general, and enjoy ourselves.

Wishing a Happy & Healthy New Year to our Dance & Music Family

Love, All of us at Sharon’s Studio of Dance & Music
