16 Years Dancing at Sharon's Studio of Dance & Music

One of my earliest memories of my childhood was dancing around the living room when I was just 3 years old. My parents would turn on the radio and I would dance for hours, while they did work around the house. My dad quickly decided to put me in dance classes and I remember coming to Sharon’s Studio of Dance to look around while my dad signed me up for classes. Just like that I started my first ballet and tap combo class in 2003 and I haven’t stopped since. I’ve taken classes from ballet to musical theatre and even did a year on the competition team.

Through my years at Sharon’s my life has definitely been a rollercoaster, but I was always able to come back to dance class and feel stable and at home. When I was seven years old I was diagnosed with a tumor in my spinal cord. I had my first major surgery in January of 2008 and was hospitalized for 3 months for recovery and therapy. I had to fully learn how to use my legs again. However my main motivation while in the hospital wasn’t to get better, but was to be able to perform in the upcoming dance recital that June. A few weeks after being let out of the hospital I immediately started dance classes again. With hard work and practice I was able to perform in the recital with the rest of my class. Even 10 years later I still consider it one of my biggest accomplishments.

In the fall, I plan on attending New York University at the Tisch school of the arts for theatre. As well as perform, I one day hope to be able to teach theatre to kids and direct shows of my own at various high schools and middle schools. I would just like to truly thank Miss. Sharon and all of the faculty at Sharon’s as well as all the friends I’ve made over the years for making dance class such a special place for me.

Good luck at NYU, Laura!
